In low-key ceremony, Lakers unveil In-Season Tournament banner

Fans who arrived five minutes before tip-off missed it. No speeches from LeBron James or Lakers brass (or Adam Silver). No one lifted the trophy.

The Lakers unveiled the banner after a video tribute to their undefeated In-Season Tournament run at midcourt.

This fit. Winning the first IST was nice, but not the goal. It was a side quest within a larger one.

Undoubtedly, it will persist. "It will only grow and improve..." Darvin Ham, Lakers coach, discussed the pregame unveiling.

Especially winning the first In-Season tournament. And as I said, it's a great boost to our competitiveness.

It also keeps up the foundation we're trying to build so that we can make it through the regular season and into the playoffs.

After that, the Lakers and Knicks did their last seven minutes of warm-ups. So, cheering loudly for the IST wouldn't have fit at a Lakers game.
