Edwards issues statement after texts about abortion posted on social media
Miami—Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards delivered a statement Monday after a woman who claimed to be pregnant with Edwards' kid published private conversations on social media showing Edwards urging her to undergo an abortion.
"In the heat of a moment, I made comments that are not me, and that are not aligned with what I believe and who I want to be as a man," Edwards said on his X (previously Twitter) account.
All women should be supported and empowered to make their own body and health decisions. I'll keep my personal issues private for now."
Edwards' comment appeared to respond to words model Paige Jordae uploaded to her Instagram account of their apparent exchange, which trended Monday morning.
Anthony Edwards offered Jordae $100,000 to get an abortion, and she posted a wire transfer.
Edwards scored 32 points, beating the Heat 112-108 on Monday. Before the game, Wolves coach Chris Finch said the team would talk to Edwards.
"We will be having ongoing conversations about such things," Finch adds. I want to emphasize that it doesn't reflect our company's ideals. Anthony Edwards' education and maturity are still evolving as a young guy.
Above and beyond that, it is a subject of personal concern for him, and any interactions that we have will be completely confidential.
Two nights prior, the Wolves and Adidas celebrated Edwards' trademark sneaker, the AE 1, at Saturday's triumph over the Pacers.
After signing a maximum contract extension with the Wolves this summer for up to $260 million if he makes an All-NBA team, the Wolves and Adidas are pushing Edwards as an NBA face.
