Here's how tiebreakers work for draft picks and their implications for the Bear

Currently, the Bears have two first-round picks in the top five. Bears get the #1 pick because the Panthers have the lowest NFL record (2-12). Due to their 5-9 record, the Bears pick fifth.

The Panthers defeated the Falcons for the second time this season on Saturday. They were one win behind the 3-11 New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals, the second and third NFL draft picks.

Regular season record reverses NFL draft. The Panthers (Bears) draft first. Worst NFL record. If many teams have the same record, reduced schedule strength wins.

The Bears are 5-9, tied with five other teams. However, because they have the poorest schedule strength—weaker opponents than others with the same record—they obtain a higher selection pick.
