The NBA suspended Green on December 16 for a hit on Phoenix Suns centre Jusuf Nurkić during a 119-116 loss. Choking Rudy Gobert earned Green his first season ban.

The NBA stated that Green will "be required to meet certain league and team conditions before he returns to play." The league and Joe Dumars did not disclose those terms.

Charania includes Green's counselling. NFL sources declined to reveal Green's counselling "out of respect for his privacy," writes The Athletic. If the NBA reinstates Green after three weeks, he may miss 10 games.
