Draymond Green suspended indefinitely by NBA for swinging at Suns C Jusuf Nurkić
Draymond Green was suspended indefinitely by the NBA on Wednesday for swinging at Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkić, his second incident of the season.
According to the league, Green must "be required to meet certain league and team conditions before he returns to play." That doesn't explain what or how long Green will be out.
The league "took into account Green's repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts" when making the decision to penalize him with this suspension.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Green will meet with Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy and his agent Thursday to explore a "path of counseling and help for Green to move forward."
Draymond Green ejected after swinging at Jusuf Nurkić
Green and Nurkić fought for position on an inbounds play during the Warriors' 119-116 loss to the Suns on Tuesday night in Phoenix.
The color green did a sudden shift and swing. Using his right hand, he delivered a blow to Nurkić's face, causing the 7-footer to fall to the court.
The foul that Green committed was swiftly determined to be a foul, and it was raised to a flagrant 2 foul. As a direct consequence of this, he was kicked out of the game.
Nurkić stated that Green's swing was unrelated to basketball. After the game, Suns coach Frank Vogel called Green's move "a reckless, dangerous play."
Green was suspended for five games after choking Minnesota Timberwolves forward Rudy Gobert. This incident occurred shortly after his return.
When Timberwolves player Jaden McDaniels and Warriors guard Klay Thompson got into it, which started a larger confrontation, Green flew in and choked Gobert with that in-season tournament game tied 0-0 last month.
After that game, Green stated he would always defend his teammates but acknowledged there was is room for growth and I need to be better in those moments in different situations.
In part owing to his “history of unsportsmanlike acts,” Green was punished for “escalating an on-court altercation” after the chokehold incident. The NBA suspended for the same reason.
